December 2022 Reads

December was a slower reading month. Mostly because my mind is unable to focus much because I have a few major life changes coming up.

Additionally, there was a family vacation, the holidays, and a new WIP that consumed a lot of time. I’ll share more about that WIP at a later date, but let’s just say, I’m really excited about it!

In December I read two books. I did have a third I was about 30% through, but I am saving it for when I’m better prepared to read it. It just didn’t resonate or capture my attention for me to continue to commit my time to it. If I’m being honest, it will take a lot for me to get back to it, but for now, it’s back on my “to be read” shelf and returned at the library. I am of the belief that if the book isn’t working for you, don’t waste your time on it. And that doesn’t mean you won’t like it at another time. As a mood reader, when I force myself to read a book i’m not in the mood for, I feel as if I’m doing the author and book a disservice and missing out on what could actually be a pleasant reading experience. I have gone back to a few books after DNF’ing and found I actually liked them.

The first book I read this month was Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison. I had seen it on social media a lot and I wanted something that could help me get in the holiday spirit. While this book didn’t take place over the holiday, it did lead up to it. I found it endearingly pleasant and I’m currently in the midst of her second book, In the Weeds. I did read this series out of order, starting with Mixed Signals a few months ago, so if one book appeals to you more than the other, I would say you *can* go out of order, but I can see how she’s setting up the third book in the first two. Not anything you’d miss if you didn’t read them first though.

The second book I read was Say You Still Love Me by K.A. Tucker. (I guess I went for initialed first names this month). I really loved her Wild series. If you went to summer camp and are looking for some nostalgia for that, this book is for you! Bonus if you worked at the camp. This is second chance romance with a dual timeline that will keep you guessing about what *happens* well into the book.

Hope everyone had a great reading month in December to end the year off on a good note!
