May 2023 Reads

It seems like I read a lot over the last month, but I don’t have a lot to show for it. It’s because I did read a lot over the last month….and there isn’t much I can show for it because a lot of it was my own work OR for my internship. Let’s just say, it was a heavy *work* reading month and light for my personal reading. My hope is in June I can tick off a few books off my TBR. It truly is getting outrageously large at this point. Send help in the form of a time machine.

I started the month by reading Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. Because I was so exhausted at the end of the days, when I read it, I could only get through small segments at a time, which made it hard for me to get into. But once I devoted more than a few pages of time to it, I got INTO IT. It’s dark. It’s angsty. It’s fantasical! It’s sexy (but a slow burn, you’ll have to wait for it). Once I got into this, I REALLY got into this. And it was one of the best world building fantasy books I have read in a while. 10/10 reccommend if you like dragons, ACOTAR (but make it dark), and a strong female lead.

I was on a fantasy kick this month. Next I read Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross (Rebecca’s had a good month for me! Ha!), which was so beautifully written. I really enjoyed it and while it didn’t consume me like Fourth Wing did, I felt myself drawn to keep reading it.

I read through Erin Baldwin’s upcoming debut Wish You Were(n’t) Here. THIS BOOK. These characters have stayed with me well after reading it (I’m walking weeks later and I’m thinking about Juliette and Priya). The ending also made my heart burst with joy. Pre order it now from your local book store or on bookshop.org!

Last, I read The Blood That Binds Us by Erin Mainord. I’m going to call it a May read, even though I finished it June 1st. This one had a bit more of complex world building, and a love story that truly is enemies to lovers. But you can tell *he falls first* (swoon). If you like alpha male enemies to lovers with a strong MC, this one is for you!

What do you have up on your June TBR? Would love to discuss!
