It’s funny, every month I’m like “another slow month of reading!” but this month was truly slow. First, my full time job went HARD along with some *small* life things, so I just was exhausted at the end of the day and my time was very limited outside of agenting. TBH I hardly even wrote this month too- I’m squeaking by on what I want to do, all my time devoted to what I need to do!
That being said, I did read a client manuscript along with working through queries and fulls from the agenting side of my life. It was productive, just not for the sake of this post.
I read two books this month (technically read one book and listened to another), along with starting countless other books that I’m still working on (both in audio format and physical).
The first book I read (listened to) this month was a continuation of my exploration of suspenseful/thriller novels. I thoroughly enjoyed MADE FOR YOU by Jenna Satterthwaite. What I’ve realized about the thriller genre is I’m definitely someone who enjoys it, especially when there is a love story involved. What I enjoyed about this one was there is a Sci-Fi element along with amazing cultural critique and a new motherhood element that hit home. And I didn’t see the twist coming. In case you get worried (as I was while reading), the dog stays safe- don’t worry about that!
As a Ali Hazelwood fan, I will read anything by her. While this isn’t my favorite of hers, I still gobbled it up in one sitting– because how she writes soothes my brain and her love stories make me feel hopeful. I just really like her style. NOT IN LOVE is a great steamy escape from reality and a good read when you don’t need something complicated. Just a good love story.
For July being a long month I didn’t read much to show here, but I’m hopeful once I am back to our “school day” routine, I can get back to reading more books!
